MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Southern Arkansas Men's and Women's Tennis teams are back in action this weekend as both are set to compete on Friday and Saturday. The Muleriders take on Midwestern State on Friday at 3 p.m. in Wichita Falls and will meet Cameron on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Lawton, Oklahoma. The SAU Women will also take on Angelo State on Saturday in a match set for 2 p.m in Lawton. Live scoring links, if available, can be found at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
Mulerider Women
Southern Arkansas enters the weekend 2-5 overall with a non conference victory over Great American Conference foe Henderson State and a decisive season-opening win against Delta State. Two of the defeats came at the hands of Division I Louisiana Tech which served as a great early-season test for the Muleriders.
Of note,
Annika Berrendorf is 4-1 against Division II opponents in singles action this spring.
Lena Milosevic has won three times in singles play this season. At line one,
Sarah Roy has two victories this spring as does
Inna Serpukhova and
Greta Wallin. Doubles action has been led by the duo of Milosevic and Berrendorf who have claimed four match wins with Wallin and
Kalley Smith following with three.
Midwestern State
The Mustangs are 5-2 on the season and have won four straight matches. MSU is 2-0 all-time against the Muleriders. SAU lost a tight 4-3 contest in March of 2021 and was swept 4-0 in a March meeting last spring.
Skylar Minns is a perfect 5-0 in singles play. Amelia Lawson, Alice Di Matteo and Emilija Visic all have four wins each.
For the season, the Mustangs hold a 22-13 record overall in singles competition. Di Matteo along with Kanaha Furutani lead the doubles efforts with a 4-2 record. MSU is 11-8 in doubles play this spring.
#11 Cameron
The Miners are 1-1 entering the weekend's action. CU won 4-0 over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday.
Cameron lost 6-1 to UT-Arlington with Lea Manga claiming the lone singles win. Vasilisa Polunova, Kateryna Rudenko and Pilar Jaurena all won in singles against SOSU.
Saturday morning's matchup will be the third all-time between the two teams. Cameron claimed the first two, both at neutral sites, winning 4-3 in March of 2021 and 4-0 last February.
T#20 Angelo State
The Rambelles hold a 4-1 record and have a common opponent with the Muleriders in Delta State who ASU topped 6-1 in their last trip to the court.
Eight players have recorded at least one singles win this spring. Ayda Guler and Ramitha Irrinki have each won four matches with the latter unbeaten in the spring. Three other players have registered three singles wins. ASU is 4-1 at line one this spring.
In doubles play, the duo of Eva Schwartz and Esther Bowers is a perfect 5-0. Irrinki and Guler are 4-1. The Rambelles are 11-3 overall in doubles action through five matches this season.
Saturday's matchup will be the second all-time between the two programs. ASU topped SAU 5-2 in Magnolia last February.
#25 Mulerider Men
Southern Arkansas is 2-3 on the season having dropped three of their past four matchups of which two were against foes among the ITA rankings. The Muleriders earned wins over Delta State (5-2) to start the year and beat Mississippi College (4-2) to split the day in the team's home opener.
Ole Valkyser and
Mathieu Wierniezky have each claimed four singles wins this season.
Sander Jans has earned a pair at line one.
Jans along with
Ben Schneider have a team-leading three doubles wins, while
Matthew Tennant and
Adrian Gheorge follow with a pair.
(RV) Midwestern State
MSU is 5-3 this season and has dropped two of their past three. It will be the third meeting between SAU and MSU. The series is split with the Mustangs winning the first-ever matchup 4-3 in Wichita Falls in early March of 2021. The Muleriders evened the young series with a 4-0 shutout last spring in Magnolia.
Germano Setti leads the team with five singles wins. Three other players follow with four wins each. Killian Guillou is unbeaten at 4-0 with three of those wins coming at line six. MSU is 23-16 in singles play this spring.
Luis Diaz Argente and Juan David Duque are 5-2 in doubles. Marcal Miret Avante and Settie are .500 at 4-4 in line one play. For the season, MSU is 13-10 in doubles action.
(RV) Cameron
Cameron won 4-0 over Southeastern Oklahoma State to move to 1-1 on the season. SAU is winless against the Miners in two efforts. CU won 4-2 in Wichita Falls in 2021 and swept the Muleriders 4-0 in Midlothian last spring.
Thomas Cardona has won both of his singles matches this season. Tomas Almeida and Baptiste Mercier have each won a singles match.
In doubles play, Cardona and Almeida won at line one against SOSU, while Joao Duleba and Kristian Kubik won at line two.
