OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - #16 Southern Arkansas suffered just its second setback of the season on Sunday afternoon in Oklahoma City. The Muleriders dropped their final game at the Raising Cane's Softball Festival to Missouri Southern 6-2. SAU's record moves to 12-2 on the season. It was the ninth win of the year for the Lions.
Kamryn Moctezuma opened scoring with a solo home run out to centerfield in the home half of the first inning and
Emily Shipman capped Mulerider scoring with a straightaway solo shot as well in the seventh to account for the two runs on the day for SAU.
MSSU tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single and then followed with a three-run blast to take a 4-1 lead. The Lions used a solo home run in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh to take a 6-1 lead into SAU's final at bat.
Baylie Thornhill was tabbed with her first loss of the season in a 3.1 inning effort. Three other arms tossed for SAU in the loss including Morgan McAlexader who went 3.0 innings.
Alyssa Miller recorded two of SAU's six hits which included a double.
Haley Nillen also delivered a pinch-hit double and
Mariah Hamilton picked up a base hit as well.
Jaxynn Dyson walked twice.
The Muleriders now turn their attention to Great American Conference play. Southern Arkansas opens league action with a three-game series on the road at East Central.
