Box Score 2 MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Southern Arkansas opened its 2023 home slate with a split on a full day of action on Sunday from the Live Oak Tennis Courts. The Muleriders lost the opener to (RV) West Alabama 4-1, but recovered for a 4-2 victory over Mississippi College in the nightcap.
Southern Arkansas picked up the doubles point in a highly-intense session with the Choctaws.
Sander Jans and
Ben Schneider won 7-6 (5) over Felipe Iser and Rafael Sabio at No. 1.
Matthew Tennant and
Adrian Gheorge won 7-6 (4) at No. 2 against MC's Alvaro Saint Martin and Matias Ballatore.
Jans won a tough three-set match at the top line as he put away MC's Saint Martin 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3.
Ole Valkyser beat Iser at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3. At line two it was
Mathieu Wierniezky that handled Sabio in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
SAU dropped the doubles point to UWA in tightly-contested matches.
Jans opened with a straight sets victory over Illari Vesanen at line one singles 6-4, 6-2. At lines three and four, Muleriders were edged in three sets as
Tim Fischer fell to Nutti Jokinen 6-4, 2-6, 3-6 at No. 2 and Valkyser beat 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 to Wilson Igbinovia.
