Muleriders outlast Ouachita Baptist in final home game of 2023

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Redshirt-freshman Anthony Igiede records new career-high point total to push the Muleriders past the Ouachita Baptist Tigers inside the W.T. Watson Center and improve their record to .500 at 4-4 and now 2-1 in the Great American Conference. Southern Arkansas has now won its third consecutive game over the Tigers while also winning their 14th straight against OUA at home.

TOP PERFORMERS
Igiede led the 'Riders in scoring on the evening as he recorded a new career-high of 23 points with help from beyond the arc as he made four of his five attempts from the range (80%). The redshirt-freshman also accounted for six rebounds, two assists, and a block on the night. The Muleriders has three other double-digit scorers in Carel Ray Jr. (19), Mohamed Traore (14), and Jessie Davis Jr. (11). Davis Jr. played his part in the win as he nearly recorded a double-double with nine rebounds and his 11 points.

THE GAME
SAU had this game under control from the beginning despite a few retaliations from the Tigers as the Muleriders held the advantage for 38 minutes and 35 seconds. By the end of the first half, Southern Arkansas held the lead at 40-26. Ouachita Baptist outscored the Muleriders in the second half and eventually cut the lead down to five points, but would be a futile effort as head coach Logan Quinn and his team separated the two late in the ballgame to result in a final score of 78-68 for the 'Riders second conference victory.
