Kayte Delong earns first career GAC honor

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference weekly volleyball awards have been released and making her way onto the list of honors was Kayte Delong as the GAC Offensive Player of the Week. The Sunflower State native made her debut to the weekly rewards after her best week in collegiate-level volleyball.

Along with this being the first time that Delong has made the weekly honors list, this is also the first time that Southern Arkansas has garnered weekly awards for three-consecutive weeks since 2014 when Alli O'Banion started that run with a league defensive player of the week honor.

Delong's status was earned after the junior recorded 32 total kills (11-21) that resulted in a .346 hitting percentage and 36.5 total points thanks to seven total blocks. The 21 kills from the Kansas native against East Central is now her career-high in kills. The 32 kills she tallied over the week is also her career-high in just a week. For the first time in Delong's career, she has recorded three-consecutive matches with 10+ kills in a game.

The Overland Park, Kansas native and her squad now towards two upcoming road tests as they prepare to venture to Shawnee, Oklahoma to face-off Oklahoma Baptist on October 12 at 6 p.m. The Muleriders will continue the Sooner State tour as they then head to Bethany to compete against Southern Nazarene on October 13 at 4 p.m. For more information, check out www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
