Muleriders scary good performance overwhelms Blossoms in sweeping victory

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Muleriders returned home for a spooky night of action against the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms on Halloween night inside the W.T. Watson Center. Southern Arkansas cruised to a broom sweeping victory (25-14, 25-16, 25-10) over the Blossoms thanks to the scary good performances by several Muleriders.

TOP PERFORMERS
Kayte Delong led the crew in scoring with 12 kills and an attack percentage of .367, but nearly every time Isla Olivas put her hand on the ball it ended in a kill. Olivas recorded ten kills off of just 12 attacks for a .833 attack percentage which is the best by a Mulerider this season with at least ten attacks. Morgan Schuster accounted for an incredible match as she recorded 33 of the 38 total assists by the Muleriders (11 assists/set). She was responsible for four kills off six attacks as well as three service aces, two total blocks (1solo, 1 assist), and nine digs.

THE MATCH
At the beginning of each set UAM started with an 0-2 lead. The endings however ended on Southern Arkansas' terms as the Riders handled their business against their bitter in-state rivals at home. In the first set, SAU nearly averaged a 3:1 kill ratio against the Blossoms as they extended their lead to a high of 11 to shutdown UAM. The second saw a much closer beginning, but was all for not as the Riders fled past Arkansas-Monticello with a 6-0 run from a 6-6 tie. The largest lead for SAU ended up being a nine-point differential as the Muleriders claimed set two. Southern Arkansas was looking to finish off the Blossoms in three, but UAM did not want to go down without a fight. Arkansas-Monticello held right with SAU till the 10-9 mark where the Muleriders rode to victory thanks to a 15-1 run to seal the deal.
