Muleriders open home slate on Tuesday night against UAM

GAC play resumes as SAU prepares for first of seven home matches in '22

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Southern Arkansas Volleyball welcomes the University of Arkansas at Monticello in the Muleriders return to the W.T. Watson Athletic Center Tuesday night for their home-opener. The Muleriders are looking to pick up their first Great American Conference win of the year following their first victory of the season on September 9.

The Muleriders are 11-11 against the Cotton Blossoms and are looking to extend their 6-4 home record over UAM since the two became members of the GAC in 2011. In their last matchup November 2, 2021, junior Morgan Schuster became the 5th player in SAU history to pass the 2,000 career assist mark. The Muleriders collected more points (75-69), kills (62-50), and assists (49-35) than the Cotton Blossoms, but fell 2-3.

Going into the Tuesday night matchup, sophomore Landry Rogers leads the Mulerider offense with 106 kills while junior Morgan Schuster leads with 272 assists on the season. Schuster also ranks second on the defensive side of the ball as she has collected 87 digs, which ranks second on the team behind sophomore Samantha Still's team-leading 114 digs. Both Rogers and Schuster find themselves on the GAC leaderboards, with Schuster ranking fifth in assists and Rogers ranking seventh in kills and eighth in points (114). SAU has two players that have collected 23 blocks in sophomores Lauryn Moultrie and Isla Olivas, followed by sophomore Kayte Delong (13) and Schuster (11).

UAM comes into Tuesday's matchup with a 5-7 overall record and a 1-0 record in Great American Conference play. The Cotton Blossoms have lost two straight matches, both 3-0 losses to Mississippi College and Union University (Tenn.).

Holliday Ellis leads the UAM offense with 115 kills on the season, while Kalin Duncan leads the team with 231 assists, followed closely by Mia Smalls (201). Duncan and Small rank in the top ten in the conference. On the defensive side, Stasha Adams leads the team with 161 digs, while Riley Krenek leads the team with 30 blocks.
