MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Despite a solid performance in the circle from starter
Kiana Pogroszewski, the Southern Arkansas University softball team fell 2-0 to Harding University in game one of their three game series on Friday evening. The Muleriders are now 23-12, (16-4 GAC), while the Bisons move to 28-11 (14-7 GAC).
The Bisons got the scoring started in the first inning after leading the game off with a triple that got away from the SAU right fielder due to 20+ mph winds that were howling during the duration of the game. HU would then get their second batter of the game on base after a fielding error at third base. The HU run would come on a wild pitch as Hannah Jones was able to cross the plate to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. Harding's second run of the game would come on a solo shot off of the bat of Jordan Cabana in the top of the fifth inning.
The Muleriders were outhit by the Bisons 8-3.
Alese Casper,
Jaxynn Dyson and
Madison Miller all collected singles for SAU.
Pogroszewski took the loss in the circle despite another strong out. She scattered eight hits over 7.0 innings, struck out seven batters, allowed no walks, and also worked out of two bases loaded jams. Lily Tanski picked up the win after only allowing three hits and striking out three to go along with no walks.
The series will resume tomorrow afternoon with a double-header. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
