Muleriders eclipse 30 wins on season; Split DH with OKBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas University baseball team eclipsed 30 wins on the season this evening as they split with Oklahoma Baptist University in a double-header. The Bison took game one 12-3, but the Muleriders were able to get hot in game two as they won 7-4. SAU is now 30-9 (22-4 GAC). The two teams will close out their series tomorrow at noon.

Game one saw the Muleriders get outhit 17-7. SAU was able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as Chris Sutton drew a walk to start the game, followed by a two-run home run from Brett McGee to put SAU out in front early. This would be the only lead of the game for the Muleriders, as the Bison put up a three spot in the bottom of the first inning and then never looked back

OBU was able to post nine more runs throughout the game, with two in the third inning, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the eighth inning. SAU was able to get one more run on the board in the bottom of the top of the sixth as Jakob Machuca hit a solo blast into left center. Sutton and Machuca both collected two hits apiece for SAU.

Jacob Womack took the loss, only his second of the year to move to 5-2. The senior tossed 4.1 innings and gave up 11 hits, eight runs and struck out five. Hayden Hable came on to toss the final 3.2 frames giving up six hits on four runs (two earned) while striking out one.

Even though they were once again outhit in game two 11-3, the Muleriders were able to still push seven runs across to get their 30th win of the season 7-4.

SAU pushed one run across in the top of the third inning on a McGee double that scored Jackson Duke, who led the inning off with a walk to lead 1-0. The Muleriders pushed across five runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. McGee picked up his second RBI of the game on a bases loaded walk that once again scored Duke. With the bases still loaded, Brandon Nicoll was hit by a pitch that scored Riley Orr to make it 3-0 SAU. Tucker Burton made in 5-0 in favor of the Muleriders has he hit a single to right field that scored McGee and Sutton. SAU would push one more across on a Machuca sac fly that scored Nicoll to lead 6-0.

OKBU would answer back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-3 SAU. The Muleriders would score one more run in the top of the sixth inning as Sutton doubled home Orr to make it 7-3. The Bison were able to push one more run across in the final frame, but it would not be enough as SAU won 7-4.

Jeremy Adorno once again had another stellar outing as the freshman right hander struck out 10 batters in a 7.0 inning complete game. He gave up 11 hits on four runs (three earned).
