#8 Muleriders knock off #55 Harding on Senior Day

Gilmore, Gondouin and Rehfuss cap regular season home careers at 20-1

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – #8 Southern Arkansas evened up its MIAA-GAC record at 1-1 after knocking off #55 Harding on Monday afternoon from the Live Oak Tennis Courts. It was a contest briefly halted by a weather delay that included distant lightning, before resuming with the Muleriders earning the clinch at singles line No. 5 as Sofiane Bah put away Milosh Petrovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. SAU improves to 16-4 on the season and finishes the regular season unbeaten at home with a perfect 6-0 mark. The Muleriders prepare for the final regular season task of the campaign: an April 22 match at Southeastern Oklahoma State that will have heavy postseason implications.

Harding claimed an early lead with victories at doubles lines one and two which sandwiched a win at No. 3 by Matthew Tennant and Ole Valkyser: a 6-3 showing against the Bisons' Petrovic and Diego Pierola.

SAU evened the match at 1 as #56 Stuart Rehfuss handled Arthur Bellan 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. The Muleriders would lead 2-1 after #18 Marko Nikoliuk defeated Morgan Salvan 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, but the Bisons responded with a line one victory as Sander Jans fell in a tight match 7-5, 6-4 to HU's Dani Ortiz.

Ole Valkyser, the #17 ranked player in the Central Region, won at No. 4 6-4, 7-5 over Alvaro de Lorenzo to give the Muleriders a 3-2 advantage and set the table for Bah's spirited 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 decision over Petrovic that clinched the match 4-2 for SAU and left the line six battle between Yuri Gondouin and Cas de Ruiter unfinished with the former leading 3-1 in the final set.

Seniors Jonathan Gilmore, Gondouin and Rehfuss played their final regular season home match at the Live Oak Tennis Courts on Monday. The trio was publicly honored prior to the match. Since 2018-19, SAU is 20-1 at home and holds an overall record of 54-18.
