Mulerider Women, Men land Newman on Sunday

Southern Arkansas Women top the nationally-ranked Jets; SAU Men continue hot start

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – A beautiful Sunday afternoon in southwest Arkansas was well spent by both Mulerider Tennis programs as the Mulerider Women landed Newman 4-3 for its second win of the season and second in three days, while the Mulerider Men cruised to a 6-1 win and improved its overall record to 9-1. Southern Arkansas' women improve to 18-4 all-time at the Live Oak Tennis Courts, while the SAU Men's home record increases to a nearly perfect 19-1 through the program's first twenty home matches of its NCAA Era.
 
For the SAU Women (2-5), the doubles point was claimed by wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Inna Serukhova and Greta Wallin won a tightly-contested match at the top of the order over the Jets' Antonia Ramos and Ana Zeikidze 7-5. At the bottom, Kalley Smith and Sarah Roy were victorious over NU's Amber Hands and Marie Brunet 6-2.
 
In singles play, Lena Milosevic won at No. 1 with a 6-3, 7-6 (2) decision over Dana Issabayeva. Wallin secured another point at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-4 put away of Zeikidze and Simone Simas rallied at No. 4 with a three-set victory against Brunet 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
 
The Mulerider Women return to action on Sunday, March 20 against #13 West Alabama as part of its spring break swing into Alabama and Georgia. It will be the first of six matches over seven days.
 
The Southern Arkansas Men handled the Jets with ease in doubles play. Sofiane Bah and Stuart Rehfuss won 6-0 over NU's Ali Mounir and Pedja Kolaric at No. 1. Gabriel Breitenmoser and Matthew Tennant topped the Jets' Kurt Buckner Suarez and Jarrod Nowak 6-1 at No. 3.
 
Rehfuss played at No. 1 on Sunday and won 6-4, 6-3 over Mounir, Ole Valkyser operated at No. 2 and beat Buckner Suarez 6-3, 7-6 (6). Bah defeated Gustavo Gil 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4, while Tennant rallied to grind out a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 win over Luca Penteado at No. 5. Breitenmoser held down the order at No. 6 and eased to a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Nowak.
 
The Mulerider Men return to action on Sunday, March 20 against West Alabama as part of its spring break swing into Alabama and Georgia. It will be the first of five matches over five days.
