Muleriders improve 14 strokes in final round, finish seventh at Houston Classic

Timmerman leads squad with top 15 finish

CONROE, Texas – With day two of the Houston Classic at a close, the Southern Arkansas University Men's Golf team have made the first step of the Spring 2022 season. The Muleriders shot a 294 on the third and final day, finishing out the tournament with a combined team score of 911. The Muleriders placed 7th in the tournament overall.
 
The Muleriders were led by senior Roman Timmerman who shot a 70 in his third round, with a total overall score for the tournament of 223. He tied for 14th place in the tournament overall. Contributing to his third round score of 70 was an improvement on holes 16-18. Timmerman bogeyed all three holes in round one, round two he pared hole 16, bogeyed hole 17, and double bogeyed hole 18. In round three Timmerman pared hole 16 then delivered birdies on holes 17 and 18.
 
True freshman Tyler Garrett shot a 75 in his third round, having an overall score for the tournament of 227. Freshman Logan McDonald fired a 72 in his third round, shaving seven strokes from his round 1 score and shaving five from his round two score. His total score for the tournament overall is 228 placing him tied for 30th. McDonald's performance on holes 10-14 played a big part in improving his overall position as he made par on holes 10, 11, and 14 then delivered birdies on holes 12 and 13 in round one. In round two, he fired birdies on holes 10, 13, 14, made par on hole 12 and posted a bogey on hole 11. In his final round, McDonald bogeyed hole 10, but birdied holes 11-14.
 
Junior Caleb Miller shot a 77 in his third round, having a total overall score for the tournament of 233. Miller shaved three strokes from his round one score and shaved four from his round two score. Sophomore Connor Harrington fired an 80 in his third round, finishing with a total overall score for the tournament of 243. Harrington dropped three strokes from his round two score.
 
Tim Ryan, who was playing as an individual, fired an 85 in his third round and posted an overall score for the tournament of 247.
 
SAU shot even on all par-5 scoring opportunities and shot +55 on all par 4 scoring opportunities. Timmerman led with the team with 34 pars, and McDonald led the team with 12 birdies.
The Muleriders return to action on Monday, February 28 for the 54-hole Broncho Invitational hosted by Central Oklahoma in Oklahoma City.
