ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Men's Tennis team earned its second victory over a top 25 program in the span of three days on Monday as the Muleriders handled Southwest Baptist 5-2 inside Ouachita's Ward Tennis Center. SAU improves to 2-0 on the young season and is now 4-0 against SBU since first matching up with the Bearcats in February 2020. The Muleriders return to action on Saturday, February 12 in Midlothian, Texas for matches with Jacksonville College and (RV) Cameron.
On Monday, the Muleriders jumped out to a 1-0 advantage with a solid showing in doubles action.
Sander Jans and
Marko Nikoliuk handled SBU's Carlos Corser and Max Sanoja 6-1 at line 1.
Stuart Rehfuss and
Sofiane Bah edged the Bearcats' Alvaro Nunez and David Szeri 7-6 (7-4), while
Ole Valkyser and
Yuri Gondouin topped Makary Adamek and Youssef Nabil 7-5.
Southern Arkansas took care of business at the top of the singles lineup as lines 1 through 4 all put away their respective opponents in the victory. Jans beat Szeri 7-6 (5), 7-5 in a close match at No. 1. Rehfuss dismissed Nunez at No. 2 by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Nikoliuk topped Adamek 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 and at No. 4 it was Valkyser beating Corser 6-2, 6-1.
