ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Diamond Morris led Southern Arkansas with 20 points,
Kylie Warren added 18 points which included a 12-for-13 effort from the stripe and two other Muleriders scored in double figures, but it was not enough to thwart Henderson State on its home court as the Reddies utilized a 51% shooting clip from the floor and turned 22 Mulerider turnovers into 33 points to top SAU 96-72 in Great American Conference action on Saturday afternoon from inside the Duke Wells Center.
The Muleriders (10-11, 5-11 GAC) led for just 40 seconds in the contest after scoring the game's first basket. SAU trailed 22-14 after the first quarter and got as close as six points to the Reddies' advantage twice with Warren knocking down a pair of free throws at the 5:39 mark of the second quarter. That would be as close as Southern Arkansas would come to Henderson State as HSU carried a 14-point lead into the intermission and a 26-point benefit into the final ten minutes of play.
HSU connected on 11 trifectas in the victory with six coming in the first half to aid the constructing of the halftime advantage. The Reddies outrebounded SAU 46-34 and outscored the visitors inside 46-22.
Ariana Guinn scored 14 points and
Kisi Young followed with ten points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Warren and
Doriana Brown followed Young in rebounding with five each.
