Devante Brooks delivered his 14
th double double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds and Southern Arkansas quickly turned a seven-point deficit with just over 90 seconds to play into a one-possession game, but Henderson State managed to fend off the rally with a second chance lay-in and five free throws to claim a 77-68 win in Great American Conference action on Saturday afternoon from inside the Duke Wells Center.

Jalen Brooks blocked a three-point shot on the other end of the floor but the rebound went to the Reddies and led to an and-one bucket. That sequence was preceded by four free throws as HSU shut the door at the stripe.
The Muleriders (11-9, 7-7 GAC) opened the game on a 26-8 run through the first ten minutes of play, but the Reddies rallied and closed the half on a 28-12 run as SAU held a one-possession lead at 38-36 at the intermission. Southern Arkansas controlled the boards in the first half outrebounding the host in the statistic 22-13, including 11 on the offensive end of the floor. SAU knocked down five timely trifectas and allowed just three makes in ten attempts from range by HSU in the opening twenty minutes.
Second half action included three lead changes and four tied scores and saw both teams lead by as much as nine. SAU shot just over 37% from the floor, while the Reddies knocked down over 44% of their attempts including nearly half of the nine attempts attempted from three-point range in the second half.
Devante played 38 minutes and shot 50% from the floor. Jalen scored a dozen points and added eight rebounds with a block and an assist. Junior guard

Southern Arkansas hits the road for Monticello on Monday night for a 6 p.m. tip-off inside Steelman Fieldhouse against bitter league rival Arkansas-Monticello.
