ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Trailing by four points to start the fourth quarter at 64-60, the Southern Arkansas University women's basketball team used a 19-3 run to go up on Ouachita Baptist University and pull off the 86-82 win in their final road contest of the year. The Muleriders move to 13-14 (8-13 GAC) with one game remaining on the schedule.
In a game that saw six tie scores and eight lead changes, the Muleriders were in control the majority of the first half as they took a 40-34 lead into the break. The Tigers had their biggest quarter of the game come in the third as they outscored SAU 28-18 to take a 64-60 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Starting the final quarter with a 19-3 run (10:00-3:51) SAU was able to jump on top of the Tigers 79-67. The Tigers quickly answered and went on their own run as they pulled within two of SAU at 84-82. After drawing a foul with 00:12 seconds left, SAU was able to tack on two more points to seal as
Mychala Linzy connected on both free throws.
One week after becoming the school's leader in made three pointers,
Kylie Warren showed why she has that title as she knocked down 5-of-7 from beyond the arc to lead SAU with 21 points.
Kenzie Ezekiel also shot well from downtown as she connected on 3-of-6 attempts to finish with 17 points.
Kisi Young finished with 12 points while
Doriana Brown chipped in 11. Young and Brown led SAU on the glass with six rebounds each.
The Muleriders shot 49.1 percent from the field (28-57) and 45.8 percent from three (11-24).
The Tigers were led by Aspen Thornton with 30 points and by Makayla Miller who posted 23 points.
SAU will return to Magnolia on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day as they are set to host Arkansas Tech. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
