MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas enters the Wednesday night showdown following a devastating 83-93 loss to Ouachita on December 10. SAU finds themselves on a 4-game losing streak despite having the second-best scoring offense in the nation at an average 88.4 points per game. The Muleriders' impressive scoring efforts are stifled by their conference-trailing 83.7 allowed points per game.
The Muleriders' 2-5 record does not reflect their dominant offense that is led by senior Diamond Morris. Morris is just five points away from hitting the triple digit mark, a feat that took her ten games in the 2021-22 season. Through seven games last year, Morris was averaging 11.0 points per game and is averaging 13.6 ppg through seven this season. She additionally leads team rebounding with 20 on the offensive side and 31 from defense as well as providing the most assists at 28.
Senior Kylie Warren has surpassed 20 points in two games thus far, an mark she attained just once in the 2022-23 season. Warren trails Morris at 83 points on the season, and is followed by senior Mychala Linzy with 77 points. Linzy leads the team with an impressive 57.1% field goal percentage and has recorded a team-leading 14 steals. She ranks 13th in the nation with a 50% three-point percentage alongside freshman teammate Kylie Minter. The newcomer from League City, Texas ranks fourth in team scoring at 66 points on the season and leads all non-starters.
Arkansas Baptist was most recently defeated by Wiley College on Monday, December 12 where Celebria Peacock led team scoring while one other Buffalo recorded double digit scoring figures.
In the eight games reported to the NAIA website, Arkansas Baptist is posting a 5-6 record on the season. Through those seven games, they have made 17 of 99 attempted threes (17.2%) while Southern Arkansas has made 92 of their attempted 267 (34.5%).
The Wednesday night matchup will serve as the first meeting between the two Arkansas teams in school history. The Buffaloes will play Bacone College on Tuesday night before making the trip to Magnolia for the midweek affair.
