3 Point Shooting Key for Muleriders as GAC Play Begins

Southern Arkansas will play Henderson and Harding to start their 21-game conference season

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Mulerider Women will play two this week, officially opening up GAC play Henderson in Arkadelphia on Thursday before returning home to take on Harding inside the W.T. Watson Center. Southern Arkansas looks to post a winning record come this weekend as they currently are 2-2 overall.

The Riders' last three games have been impressive showings, scoring triple digits in wins over Lincoln University of Missouri and Arlington Baptist University while taking the University of Texas at Tyler to Overtime in a hard-fought matchup. The Muleriders enter GAC matchups ranked first in offensive play in the conference, averaging 85.8 points per game.

The Muleriders are leading the country in three points made per game while being the fifth highest scoring offense. Senior Mychala Linzy is at the forefront of the three-point shooting and has the 17th best three-point percentage (.556) in the country and 3rd best in the conference. The team ranks 12th in the nation in turnovers forced per game and 14th in steals.

Senior Diamond Morris leads the Mulerider team with an average 12.3 points per game followed by senior Kylie Warren (11.0), Linzy (10.8) and freshman Kylie Minter (10.5). Morris is additionally recording a team leading 7.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

Henderson

Henderson is posting a 3-3 record and has won three of their last four games, including a 67-57 win over UT Tyler. In their two matchups last season, the Muleriders won their first game 112-99 while the Reddies handed SAU a 72-96 loss in their last game. The 112-point win serves as the third highest score in the Mulerider Women's program.

Henderson State's Ashley Farrar leads the conference in scoring, averaging 21.5 pointer per game on 129 made points this season, and additionally leads with an average 3.2 3-PT field goals per game. Abbie Jiles is averaging 2.7 steals per game to rank fourth in the conference.

Harding

Harding enters the week with a 4-3 record and will face Ouachita on Thursday before making the weekend trip to Magnolia. Harding started off the season with three-straight losses before bouncing back to defeat Texas Woman's (74-70 OT), Delta State (58-51), Puerto Rico-Bayamon (88-54) and Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (57-20). The Lady Bisons are holding opponents to 56.3 points per game, the second-best figure in the conference.

In the 2021-22 season, Harding handed Southern Arkansas two losses, beating the Riders, 95-70 and 93-90.

Harding's Sage Hawley ranks sixth in the country in rebounds, fifth in field goals made and eleventh in double doubles. She leads Harding scoring at 16.4 points per game, followed by Jacie Evans who is averaging 11.6 and Aubrey Isbell with 10.3. Kendrick Bailey has made .444% of her 27 attempted 3-PT field goals to lead the Lady Bisons team.
