Magnolia, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Mulerider Men's basketball team search for their first win of the 2022-23 season following tough-fought matches against #7 Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State University at the American Family Insurance Classic. The men will face off against two non-conference opponents this week in Arlington Baptist and Ecclesia College.
The Muleriders are shooting 47% from the field and are led by senior Blake Rogers who is posting 31 points, followed by junior Gregory Hammond Jr. with 55 and senior LaTreavin Black with 24. Black leads the team with 14 rebounds and junior Jerry Carraway Jr. had recorded a team-leading seven assists. Sophomore Carel Ray Jr. is finding the most success from behind the arc, making 50% of his attempted threes.
Arlington Baptist
The Arlington Baptist Patriots were most recently served a loss by St. Edwards University in an exhibition match. The 53-94 effort was steered by Daylen Minor who posted 15 points after successfully making 3 of 7 shots from behind the arc and Da'vione Stafford who put up 13 points off the bench. Minor also found success in their 69-105 loss to the University of St. Thomas, putting up 20 points while successfully making four of five threes.
Ecclesia College
The Ecclesia College Royals will face University of Arkansas at Monticello on Thursday before heading West to Magnolia for the Friday night matchup. Ecclesia has a 2-4 record coming into the week and has dropped their last two games to Lyon College (74-82) on November 10 and Sterling College (79-89) on November 8. Their team scoring has been dominated by Justin Reaves who put up 21 points off the bench against LC and 19 against SC.
The Muleriders and Royals have faced each other twice in years past with both matches coming as successful efforts for Southern Arkansas. Their most recent clash was a 88-59 Mulerider victory in November 2017 in Magnolia. The Muleriders look to repeat their 2012 victory (105-58) and put up triple digits under the Friday night lights.
