Magnolia, Ark. – Throw on your pink and come out to the W.T. Watson Athletic Center this Thursday night for the annual Dig Pink Break Cancer Awareness Volleyball game where the Southern Arkansas Muleriders will be taking on the league-leading Harding Bison.
The teams last went head-to-head on Tuesday, September 20 where the Bison won in four sets (24-26, 26-24, 15-25, 14-25). In the matchup in Searcy at the Rhodes-Reaves Fieldhouse, the Muleriders recorded more blocks than Harding, but were topped in kills, aces, assists and digs, and Southern Arkansas's .093 hitting percentage was outmatched by Harding's .136%.
The Bison have yet to lose a conference match, posting an 11-0 GAC record as well as an impressive 22-1 overall record. The team is on a 20-game win streak, the most in school history, and has won 13 games in straight sets with five of those wins coming against GAC schools. The team's offense is currently led by Kelli McKinnon who is averaging 3.26 kills per set (254 overall) and leading the Great American Conference with her .358 kitting percentage and Sarah Morehead who leads the team, and conference, with her average 11.09 assists per set (854 overall). On top of holding the best record in the GAC, the Bison also lead the conference with a .238 hitting percentage while holding opponents to a .126% and top the conference with an average 13.08 assists, 14.08 kills, 2.11 service aces, and 19.01 digs per set.
Junior Landry Rogers ranks seventh on the GAC leaderboard in kills (3.14 avg/set) and moved from 10th place into 7th with her average 3.43 points per set. Junior Morgan Schuster is recording an average 7.12 assists per set to rank 6th in the Great American Conference.
The Muleriders won their most recent matchup (26-24, 25-21, 25-19) at Centenary College on Tuesday, October 18, but dropped their last conference matchup (0-3, 20-25, 17-25, 20-25) in Ada, Oklahoma against East Central.
Southern Arkansas looks to pick up only their seventh win in matchup history and break their 13-game losing streak against Harding that stands since 2015 where they topped the Searcy team 3-2.
