Hot Springs, Ark. - Mulerider Women's Golf team finished out day one of competition at the HSU Battle for the Belt where the Riders are competing against four GAC rivals. Freshman Emma Hester led the team with her 14th place finish in the 25-golfer field after shooting +16 between the two rounds of play.
Hester improved from 83 (+11) in round one and shot 77 (+5) in the second round, with her efforts in round two seeing her birdie No. 10 and No. 13 and shooting for par on ten holes. On the day, the freshman recorded 18 pars. Her efforts lander her in the top ten with her +1 in par-5 scoring opportunities and placed her in the top half of the competition with her +1 in par-3 scoring opportunities.
Freshman Aubrey Marx finished even on par 5s and +1 at par-3 scoring opportunities following rounds of 83 (+11) and 81 (+9). Marx recorded a 17th place finish and notched 16 pars and two birdies.
Junior Chelsea Chow shaved 5 strokes off her first-round total of 86 to card a 81 and finish 18th with a 167 (+23) following the first day of competition. Chow finished +2 on par 3 holes and notched 14 pars and two birdies on the day.
Freshman Anna Cain shot an 86 in round one and an 89 in round two to place 24th. Sophomore Kelsey Saveall finish 25th after recording consecutive rounds of 90. Cain recorded 11 pars and Saveall notched 11 while both recorded a birdie.
As a team, the Muleriders shot 338 in round one and improved to 328 in round two to wrap up day one shooting 666 (+90). The team recorded a collective 64 pars and 8 birdies.
Southern Arkansas will return to the Hot Springs Country Club tomorrow for the final 18 holes to conclude play at the Henderson State Battle for the Belt. Fans can find live scoring here. Â
