TYLER, Texas – The Southern Arkansas Men's & Women's Tennis teams opened up the fall portion of their respective 2021-22 seasons this past weekend at the Texas-Tyler/Texas Junior College Invite which saw the Muleriders earn three singles flight titles, two singles flight consolation titles and one doubles flight title. Mulerider veteran
Marko Nikoliuk opened up with a Flight 3 win in singles action which included an impressive 6-3, 3-6 [10-2] win over Emilio Vila in the semifinals to advance to the title match.
Sofiane Bah also had a tight 7-6(5), 5-7 [10-3] win over Yudai Watanabi as he posted a 2-0 record in Group 1 play of Flight 5.
Newcomer
Matthew Tennant joined the flight-winning fold as he used two close wins by topping Jorge Sala 5-7, 6-4 [10-8] to go 2-0 in Group 2 play of Flight 6 before beating Matt Shearer 3-6, 6-4 [10-7] to claim the flight victory.
In doubles action,
Ole Valkyser and Tennant defeated Dixon / Sala 7-6(4) on Saturday to earn the flight title.
In the women's competition, both
Lena Milosevic and
Serena Gill earned consolation titles after both players battled back after opening losses to win their respective consolation flights. Milosevic topped Sara Gonzalez 6-3, 3-6 [10-6] in Flight 1 and Gill cruised against Saskia Vogelzang 6-1, 6-0 in Flight 6.
