Timmerman Matches Program-Low Round; Garrett Dazzles in Debut as Muleriders Enter Tuesday in Third

Timmerman paces squad; Garrett dazzles in collegiate debut

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Senior standout Roman Timmerman started off his final campaign as a Mulerider with an impressive 36-hole effort that included matching the program-low round with a 65, while true freshman Tyler Garrett wasn't fazed in his collegiate debut and both players enter Tuesday's final 18 holes at the 23rd Annual NSU Classic in the top ten individually with Southern Arkansas sitting in third at six-under. The Muleriders, under second-year head coach Neriah Brown, fired a 282 in round one and shaved its second round score by two strokes to finish Monday at 562; eight strokes back of No. 9 Central Missouri, 13 strokes back of defending national champion Arkansas Tech and two strokes up on Harding.

Timmerman is currently tied for third, five strokes back of the leader, after shooting an opening round 72; one over par at the par-71, 6,729-yard course of the Muskogee Golf Club. He followed his first trip around the course with a program-record round of 65 which only Kade Johnson (2018-19 Natural State Golf Classic) has done since 1993-94. Through 36 holes, Timmerman recorded seven birdies, 24 pars and an eagle on the par-5 No. 9.

Garrett, who took the course today as a collegiate golfer for the first time, sits tied for sixth after the first 36 holes of his career which saw him post back-to-back scores of 69. His final 17 holes of his first round were at par or better and included his first career birdie at the par-4 No. 16 and an eagle, like his aforementioned veteran teammate, on the par-5 No. 9.

Timmerman and Garrett's 36-hole totals land in the top ten of the program's single-match charts. At six-under in round two, Timmerman also matches the low round vs. par which has been done three other times since '93-94; twice by Johnson and the other instance by Timmerman.

Sophomore Caleb Miller shot one-under par in his first round of the season, finished Monday with a 73 and is one of nine players entering Tuesday at +1. Miller led the team with eight birdies and made par on 20 holes. Senior Garrett Davis is a single stroke back of Miller after posting rounds at par and +2 to shoot 144 on Monday. He birdied seven holes and made 21 pars.

Sophomore Connor Harrington shot consecutive rounds of 75, notched six birdies and made par 19 times.

Both of the team's rounds on Monday land in the program's top twenty all-time. The 562 through two rounds is the third-best such score in SAU's Golfstat Era.

Southern Arkansas heads back to the course on Tuesday morning looking to improve on their impressive opening day score. Fans can follow live scoring at https://bit.ly/3EDnSCf.
