Box Score 2 CONWAY, Ark. – Despite earning a 3-0 win over the University Dallas for their second win of the season, the Southern Arkansas University volleyball team earned a split on the day, as the team fell to Saint Thomas University (TX), to close out the Hendrix Warrior Invitational. SAU finished 1-2 on the weekend.
Game One
Game one saw the Muleriders face off against a historically good UD team, as SAU was able to come away with the 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) victory. Set one saw the Muleriders and the Crusaders trade points back and forth, until SAU was able to increase its lead as they used a 4-0 run. UD would pull within two points late in the set, before SAU was able to close it out.
Southern Arkansas would fall down early 2-0 in set two, before an 8-0 run made it 8-2 Muleriders. Once again UD would come within two midway through the set, but SAU was able to pull ahead and keep their lead. Much like the first two sets, set three saw the Muleriders and Crusaders battle each other very closely as SAU was able to come away with a 25-23 set win, which was good enough to give SAU the 3-0 victory.
Abby Bermudez, and
Victoria White each tallied a game high 13 kills.
Bailey Kirk finished with 10 digs, while
Morgan Schuster collected eight. Schuster led both squads with 36 assists.
The Muleriders had .315 attack percentage for the match, and led in kills (46), assists (42), digs (33), and blocks (60).
Game Two
Game two saw a different outcome as the Muleriders battled hard, but ended up losing 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) to Saint Thomas University. Bermudez was able to once again collect 10 kills in game two, while
Landry Rogers finished with eight. Schuster tallied a game high 27 assists, while Kirk tabbed 14 digs.
The Muleriders will host their home opener on Tuesday, September, 14, as they are set to host Harding University. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
