RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the preseason rankings on Tuesday afternoon for the nine member institutions that compete in women's golf. The league's head coaches have tabbed Southern Arkansas, under the direction of second-year head coach
Neriah Brown, with 22 total points tying the club with Southern Nazarene for seventh-place; a lone point back of Arkansas-Monticello for sixth place.
The Mulerider Women competed in six events last spring, recording two sixth-place finishes and capping the year with an eighth-place showing at the GAC Championships.
Five golfers recorded career-low rounds last spring and all five return for SAU in 2021-22 including juniors
Mackenzy Turner and
Klarissa Villanueva, sophomore
Corynn McKinnie, and freshmen
Taylor Rich and
Elizabeth Townsend. Sophomore
Chelsea Chow is also back for the Muleriders this season and the six returners are joined by three true freshmen who will hit the collegiate links for the first time this season. Aurea Carlisle, Kelsey Saveall and Cadence Underwood join Brown's squad this fall and add immediate competition to an experienced group.
Southern Arkansas faces a four-tournament slate this fall which takes the program into Oklahoma three times beginning first with the NSU Fall Classic hosted by Northeastern State on September 13 and 14. Two weeks later, SAU competes in the OBU Fall Invitational hosted by Oklahoma Baptist on September 27 and 28. The Central Region Preview hosted by Henderson State University is set for October 11 and 12 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and the non-championship portion of the schedule wraps up on October 25 and 26 at the Tulsa Cup hosted by Rogers State University.
