Bentonville, Ark. – The SAU Softball team picked up their first GAC Tournament win since 2018 with a 6-1 win over rivals Arkansas-Monticello, their fourth win of the season over the Blossoms.
The Muleriders started the scoring in the top of the first; an
Alese Casper double and a
Laina Suesue set up
Faith Otts for her eighth home run of the season.
The top-seeded Muleriders added a pair of runs in the third inning through a
Jaxynn Dyson single and an error by the Blossoms with the bases loaded.
An RBI double gave Monticello their lone run of the game in the top of the next inning; a
Christina Hill RBI double in the sixth inning made it the final score of 6-1.
Victoria Taylor started the game for the Muleriders, throwing four innings, allowing four hits and a run while walking two and striking out three.
Sydney Wader picked up her eighth win of the season in relief, only allowing two hits in three innings.
The Muleriders, for the first time this season, will take on fourth-seed Arkansas Tech at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon in the semifinals. If they are to win, they would face the winner of Harding-Southeastern Oklahoma in the championship game tomorrow night.
