RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas senior golfer
Kade Johnson has been named the Great American Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week following a stellar performance earlier this week at the 22
nd Annual NSU Golf Classic in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The weekly honor is the third for Johnson in his career as a Mulerider.
In Southern Arkansas' final tournament before the GAC Championship, Johnson led the Muleriders to fourth-place team finish after tying atop the leaderboard through 54 holes. The native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, finished second after two playoff holes as he shot a 207 (-6) with rounds of 69-67-71. He recorded 32 pars and 13 birdies to lead SAU in both categories and added an eagle on the par-5 No. 15.
His 67 is tied for the fourth-lowest round in the program's Golfstat Era and it marked the sixth time in his career that he finished at -4 or better. Johnson's 207 is the fifth-lowest score in the same period and the third-best 54-hole career performance by the Canadian.
Johnson and the Muleriders enter this week's tournament ranked No. 8 in the NCAA Central Region rankings and now prepare for next week's GAC Championship on April 19-20 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
