#1 Muleriders Split with Tigers

Muleriders Explode in Game Two Run-Rule

Arkadelphia, Ark. – The SAU Softball team traveled back up to Arkadelphia to take on Ouachita Baptist after beating the Tigers 2-0 in the series opener yesterday.

The double-header saw both the highs and the lows of softball for the Muleriders, dropping game one 2-1 while committing four errors before turning around and run-ruling the hosts 9-0 in five innings to close the series.

Faith Otts provided the lone Mulerider run in the third inning with her first homerun of the season. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring a pair of runs on Mulerider errors.

The Muleriders started the scoring in first inning of game two, with Laina Suesue, Christina Hill and Otts all drawing walks to load the bases, with Suesue scoring via a Jaxynn Dyson hit by pitch.

The Muleriders struck again in the third inning when Otts and Elisa Favela reached on a single and a walk, respectively, before Alese Casper drove in her fourth run of the season on a RBI single.

A Maeson Grace walk loaded the bases before Kayla Collins walked in a run and Alyssa Miller drove in another through a sacrifice fly.

Suesue then singled in a pair of runs to make it five runs in the inning, more than they had scored in the entire series up to that point.

The Muleriders finished the scoring in the next inning, with Favela and Dyson hitting back-to-back home runs, Favela a two-run home run and Dyson a solo shot, to put the score at the 9-0 final.

Victoria Taylor earned the complete shutout win, throwing all five innings, only allowing two hits and a walk and striking out five Tigers. The senior improves to 5-0 on the season and has 29 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.

The Muleriders are 5-2 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. They return to action this Tuesday when they host #18 Texas A&M-Kingsville in a double-header.
