Arkadelphia, Ark. – The SAU Women's Basketball team struggled shooting from the field in their season opener Thursday, falling to Henderson State 93-84.
With both teams even in rebounding at the half and the Muleriders holding a three-point lead, the Reddies out-rebounded the Muleriders 56-49 overall, and a 16-0 run in the third quarter swung the game in favor of the hosts, as they would lead the rest of the way.
The Muleriders forced the Reddies into 24 turnovers, but only shot 35 percent from the field, 25 percent from three and 50 percent from the line.
Henderson State's Maci Mains led all scorers with 35 points.
Diamond Morris led the Muleriders in scoring with 21 points and four steals.
In her debut,
Lillie Moore scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in 16 minutes;
Kylie Warren joined them in double digits with 11 points.
Kenzie Ezekiel scored four points and dished out a team-high four assists in her debut;
Jessica Jones made a pair of three-pointers, and
Jada Gasaway grabbed a rebound in seven minutes in their debuts.
The Muleriders are in action again on Monday, when they host Arkansas-Monticello.
