MAGNOLIA – The SAU Softball team continued their winning ways Saturday, with a pair of victories over Southwestern Oklahoma to extend their winning streak to 16 games.
The scoring started in game one the same way it did in game one yesterday – a messy ordeal by the Bulldog infield led to the Muleriders scoring in the first inning.
Laina Suesue knocked in a pair of runs an inning later on a single and
Christina Hill would single in a run an inning later.
The Muleriders tacked on two more runs with an RBI fielder's choice by
Faith Otts and a
Sarah Evans sacrifice fly.
Sydney Wader picked up her 13
th win of the season, throwing five shutout innings and only allowing six hits. The senior struck out six before
Crystine Kistner relieved her for the final two innings; the junior would strike out five of the nine batters she faced, and only allowing two hits as the duo combined for the shutout.
An Evans RBI single started the scoring in game two, and a Suesue RBI single an inning later would double the lead before the next batter, Otts, went yard for the fourth time this season, a three-run shot that made it 5-0 in the second inning.
Evans would record another RBI single to make it 6-0 before the Bulldogs pulled back five runs in the sixth inning, scoring courtesy of a wild pitch and a grand slam.
The Muleriders responded with a four-spot to put the game out of reach – an Evans sacrifice fly preceded pinch runner
Hannah Scullion scoring on a wild pitch and
Maeson Grace knocking in a pair of runs on a single.
The Muleriders also stole six bases in this game, more than they have tallied all year entering the game.
Scullion, Hill,
Alese Casper,
Jaxynn Dyson and Grace (two) improve the Muleriders to 10 for 11 this season in stolen base attempts.
Elisa Favela picked up her fourth win of the season, allowing four runs and two hits, walking three and striking out seven.
Kistner came into the game in relief, only facing two batters – a walk followed by the grand slam – before Wader came into the game in relief of the junior.
Wader only faced the minimum in her 1.2 innings of relief, striking out a pair of Bulldogs. With the effort, the senior picked up her second save of the season.
The Muleriders improve to 22-2 on the season and 12-0 in conference play. They are back in action next weekend, hosting East Central in a four-game series.
