TULSA, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas Mulerider Men's Tennis team picked up a huge victory on Saturday afternoon as the Muleriders knocked off #13 Southwest Baptist, the No. 2 ranked team in the Midwest Region, by a final score of 4-1. SAU claimed the doubles point and then used a pair of three-set victories and a two-set win that included a pair of tiebreakers to top the nationally-relevant Bearcats.
Southern Arkansas saw Sofiane Bah and Stuart Rehfuss even the doubles match with a 7-5 win at #1 over SBU's Carlos Corser and Max Sanoja. The Muleriders took a 1-0 lead after Yuri Gondouin and Marko Nikoliuk stopped the Bearcats' Adham Gaber and Youssef Nabil 7-5.
In singles action, Gaber edged Rehfuss in three sets (6-4, 6-0, 7-5) in a battle of top 10 ranked opponents in their respective regions, but that came after Alexandre Machaj topped Alvaro Nunez in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) at #4. With a 2-1 lead, SAU used a win by Gondouin at #3 and a victory by Nikoliuk at #2 to clinch the match. Gondouin defeated Corser 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 and Nikoliuk was victorious over David Szeri 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-3).
The Muleriders return to action on March 6 in Midlothian, Texas, for a matchup with St. Edwards.
