Hays, Kan. - The SAU Volleyball team takes another long trek this weekend as they travel up to Kansas to take part in the 2019 Tiger Classic hosted by Fort Hays State. The six-team classic runs Friday and Saturday as the Muleriders face four opponents - two from the RMAC and two from the MIAA. Their opponents this weekend have combined to go 5-12 so far on the season.
Western Colorado
The Muleriders start off the weekend with a matchup against the Mountaineers. The RMAC team are 1-3 on the season, with their only win coming against GAC school East Central. Western Colorado is 1-0 versus the Muleriders, winning 3-0 last season in a matchup in Durant.
Fort Hays State
To wrap up day one of competition, the Muleriders will take on the hosts, Fort Hays State. The Tigers are 1-3 on the season, with their lone win coming over South Dakota Mines. Fort Hays is 2-0 all-time versus the Muleriders, winning on both occasions in the 2012 season.
Newman
Day two of play opens with MIAA opponents Newman. The Jets sit at 0-5 on the season, including losses to GAC schools Arkansas Tech and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Newman are 1-0 against the Muleriders, winning that match back in 2016.
Chadron State
The Muleriders close their time in Kansas with RMAC opponents Chadron State. The Eagles are the only team the Muleriders will face with a winning record, as they are 3-1 on the season. This will mark the first-ever matchup between the Muleriders and the Eagles.
