Edmond, Okla. -Â The SAU Softball team hits the road to Edmond, Oklahoma to take part in the NCAA Central Regional for the fourth consecutive season.
The Muleriders are 7-2 in their past three season in the regional, and the last time they entered as the five seed, back in 2017, they won their opening game against four-seed Winona State before a pair of losses against top-seed Harding and Winona State saw their season end. The Muleriders open against fellow GAC school and four-seed Arkansas Tech, a team that swept the Muleriders in Magnolia earlier this season. The Muleriders, since 2013, are 16-15 against the Golden Suns and are currently on a five-game losing streak against the school from Russellville.
The Muleriders are 2-0 against Minnesota-Duluth, winning both games in last year's super-regional that saw the Muleriders outscore the Bulldogs 13-3 en route to the World Series. The Muleriders are 1-0 against Central Oklahoma, with a 2-0 win against the Bronchos in the 2016 Central Regional in Magnolia. The Bronchos, the top-ranked team in the country, are 45-5 on the season and won the MIAA regular season championship before sweeping through the conference tournament, outscoring opponents 37-8 through the four games.
The Golden Suns are 44-13 on the season and finished second in the GAC regular season before winning the GAC Tournament to earn the league's automatic bid. The Bulldogs are 33-20 on the season, losing in the NSIC conference tournament to sixth-ranked Winona State.Â
The winner of this regional will face the winner of the other Central Regional, Winona State, Augustana, Missouri Western and St. Cloud State, with the highest-seeded team remaining hosting the three-game series.Â
