Box Score Bentonville, Ark. – The SAU Softball team lost their first-round matchup against eight-seed Ouachita in the first round of the GAC Tournament. The extra-inning affair saw the Muleriders grab the lead, fall behind and come back before the Tigers took the lead and held it in extras.
The Muleriders took the lead in the bottom of the first inning through an
Elisa Favela double.
The Tigers put up four runs in the third inning through a two-RBI single and a pair of Mulerider errors.
Favela delivered once again in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a three-run home run to left-center to tie the game.
Victoria Taylor, pitching in relief of
Sydney Wader, gave up a leadoff home run in the eighth inning that proved to be the difference.
The Muleriders only mustered six hits on Tigers pitcher Marissa Butler, and the Muleriders stranded five runners on the day.
Taylor received her fourth loss of the season, throwing 5.1 innings in relief, allowing three hits and a run, striking out seven Tigers. Wader gets a no-decision, only lasting 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and four runs (two earned).
The Muleriders are now 45-11 on the season. The Muleriders currently sit fifth in the Central Region; the NCAA Selection Show is Monday at 9 a.m.
