Enid, Okla. -Â The SAU Baseball team enters the GAC Tournament this weekend as the two seed, finishing behind rivals Arkansas-Monticello for the top spot.
They will take on Oklahoma Baptist in the first round in a rematch of last year's tournament championship where the Muleriders took two games off the Bison to claim the championship and the automatic berth into the Central Regional. The Muleriders won the season series against the Bison, taking two of three earlier in the season in Magnolia. The two matchups in last year's championship are the only two these teams have in the conference tournament.
The double elimination format ensures that all teams will get two games in Enid, with a loss seeing the Muleriders take on the loser of the one-six matchup between Arkansas-Monticello and Harding. A win would have the Muleriders face the winner of Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Muleriders are 2-2 against Harding in Enid and took two of three games from them this season. The Muleriders are 4-0 against the Boll Weevils and only took one game out of four this season from the top seed. On the other side, the Muleriders and Bulldogs have never met in Enid and the Bulldogs took two of three from the Muleriders in Magnolia; they also lost three of four to the Wonder Boys and are 1-2 against them in Enid. The winner of the GAC Tournament will recieve an automatic bid into the Central Regional Tournament, and the Muleriders currently sit eighth in the region, with Arkansas-Monticello also being in the regional rankings at fifth.Â
The NCAA Selection Show will take place on Sunday, April 12th at 9 p.m.
