Magnolia, Ark. – The SAU Softball team dropped the day one doubleheader to Arkansas Tech in a matchup between the top two teams in the GAC. The Muleriders only mustered six hits over the two games, as the visitors were able to capitalize on the Muleriders' mistakes.
Laina Suesue was the only bright spot for the Muleriders; the catcher went 2-3 in game one before being moved up to the leadoff spot where she went 1-3. The Salt Lake City native accounted for half of the Muleriders' hits on the evening.
The Golden Suns pushed across all three of their runs in game one in the seventh inning, scoring on an error by
Sarah Evans, a sacrifice fly and a single.
All five of the Golden Suns' runs on the night were unearned.
Sydney Wader took the loss in game one, going the distance, allowing seven hits and two walks and striking out four.
The visitors scoring in game two took place in the sixth inning, loading the bases with two outs before scoring on an error by
Sarah Pitre, who bobbled a throw from shortstop
Savanah Martinez. The Golden Suns doubled their lead on the next pitch on a passed ball.
Victoria Taylor got the start in this one, going six innings, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out eight.
Brooke Ford-Nelson relieved the junior for the seventh inning and went three up, three down.
The Muleriders drop to 37-8 on the season and 28-5 in conference play. They sit 2.5 games ahead of the Golden Suns in the conference standings and take each other on in a doubleheader tomorrow.
