Muleriders continue high offensive output in Sunday’s series finale over East Central

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After pushing across 19 runs on 25 hits in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of East Central, #12/11 Southern Arkansas finished off the Tigers by plating a dozen runs on a dozen hits to sweep the Great American Conference series on Sunday afternoon from Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.

The Muleriders (17-7, 12-3 GAC) received five solid innings from starter Tanner Vaught as he scattered six hits and four runs, two of which were earned, while striking out six batters to just one walk. Vaught improved to 3-1 on the season and benefitted from quality relief pitching out of the SAU bullpen as Nathan Stubber worked two innings of one-hit baseball, before Braydon Todd and Ryan Williams worked hitless frames in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

For Todd, it was the true freshman's collegiate debut. He picked up his first career strikeout to end the inning after inducing a groundball that led to a 5-4-3 double play which erased a leadoff walk.

Southern Arkansas recorded 12 extra base hits yesterday and on Sunday the Muleriders added six more as Jansen McCurdy recorded a double and a triple, while Kane Koenigseder and Cooper added doubles with the latter being responsible for a pair. Dakota Wright recorded a triple in the win and added three RBI. McCurdy led SAU with four RBI.

The Tigers scored the game's first run in the opening inning, but the Muleriders answered with three runs in the second and four more in the third to set the tone for the remainder of the contest.

SAU returns to action on Tuesday for a nonconference tilt with Arkansas-Monticello. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live coverage links are available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
