Box Score 2 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Women's Tennis team earned two more wins on Friday in central Arkansas as the Lady Muleriders beat Nebraska-Kearney 6-1 and league foe Arkansas Tech 5-2 in non-conference action from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex in Russellville.
Southern Arkansas improves to 7-2 on the season and faces a quick turnaround as they host William Jewell (9 a.m.) and Dallas Baptist (4 p.m.) on Saturday, March 2 in Magnolia at the Live Oaks Tennis Courts.
In Friday's opener, SAU received doubles wins by the duos of
Angela Vargas and
Joanna Nowakowska (def. Parnell/Ibrahimova 7-5) and
Lena Milosevic and
Serena Gill (def. Neil/Sun 6-2) to take an early 1-0 lead in the match and those four players preceded to win their singles contests.
Vargas toppled the Lopers' line three player in Yuxiu Sun 6-1, 6-0, while the GAC's reigning Player of the Week in Nowakowska knocked off Zhanel Turarbek 6-4, 6-1. Milosevic's singles win came against Claire Neil (6-3, 6-2) and Gill defeated Pranathi Gannavaram (6-1, 6-3).
Additionally,
Simone Simas picked up a singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of UNK's Fidan Ibrahimova.
Facing their first conference opponent, albeit in a nonconference tilt, the Lady Muleriders saw the doubles unit of Nowakowska and Vargas win 6-2 over Tech's Alejandra Sanchez and Teresa Sanchez.
Aurora Novati and
Simone Simas won 7(7)-6(5) over the Golden Suns' Annabel Rowlands and Kami Ward.
Singles action saw Nowakowska earn a 6-2, 6-1 decision over ATU's T. Sanchez. Vargas handled Ward 6-2, 6-1 and Simas picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rowlands. Milosevic put away Katie Harris 6-4, 6-4.
