Four Muleriders score in double-digits; fend off Wonder Boys late

Magnolia, Ark. – The SAU Men's Basketball team continues their magnificent home form for the season as they remain undefeated inside the W. T. Watson Center following today's 78-75 victory over Arkansas Tech.

Arkansas Tech's Freddy Lee led all scorers with 23 points in 40 minutes.

The Muleriders sported four players in double-digits, with CJ Elkins and Jalen Brooks both scoring 18 point apiece. Elkins' points came on 6-13 shooting, including 2-6 from three-point land as well as making all four attempts at the line. Elkins also grabbed seven rebounds, as well as recording an assist, a block and a steal in 34 minutes on the floor.

Jalen Brooks' 18 points came on 6-15 shooting, also going 2-6 from three-point range and going 4-8 from the charity stripe. Brooks recorded six rebounds, two assists, one block and a game-high four steals, including a steal on the final play of the game that sealed the victory for the Muleriders.

DeVante Brooks recorded his second double-double in four game, with 16 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds. Brooks shot 6-12 from the field and 4-7 from the free-throw line.

Gabe Gilliam was the fourth Mulerider in double digits, scoring 14 points on 4-10 shooting, with all but one attempt coming from deep. Gilliam also made both his free throws, which came because of a Will Alder technical foul late in the first half.

As a team, the Wonder Boys were assessed four technical fouls on the night – Ramses Sandifer was given one in the first half after being fouled by DeVante Brooks; Adler's came after an and-one opportunity; and the final two came in the second half after Arkansas Tech head coach Chad Kline was ejected following a disagreement with an official.

The four technical fouls saw the Muleriders go 5-8 from the line, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Frank Royles, despite only scoring two points, grabbed eight rebounds and threw a team-high five assists and Charlie Thomas blocked a team-high two shots.

The Muleriders improve to 17-5 on the season and 12-4 in conference play; they currently sit in second place in the GAC. They return to action next Thursday as they host Arkansas-Monticello.
