#13 Muleriders suffer 6-1 loss to Delta State at HSU Invitational

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – No. 13 Southern Arkansas suffered a 6-1 loss to former Gulf South Conference foe Delta State on Saturday afternoon at the HSU Invitational. The Muleriders recorded just four hits in the loss to the Statesmen, while DSU plated their six runs on eight hits.

The contest was scoreless through two innings, before the Statesmen plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning. DSU would strike for two more runs in the fifth inning, while the Muleriders lone run of the night came in the eighth inning as Josh Walker scored on a wild pitch.

All four of SAU's hits were singles as Brett McGee, Dakota Wright, Jordan Volner, and Cooper King all reached base via hit. Nathan Stubber, in relief of starter Hunter Brantley, threw 3.0 innings of no-hit baseball, while allowing only two walks.

The Muleriders will meet the Statesmen two more times in 2019. DSU travels to Magnolia for a 5 p.m. first-pitch on March 5 and SAU heads east to Cleveland for a march 27 tilt slated for a 5 p.m. start as well.

The Muleriders return to action tomorrow for their final game at the HSU Invitational. Southern Arkansas meets Missouri Western at high noon from Clyde Berry Field. Live coverage links are available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
