Alva, Okla. -Â The SAU Baseball team hits the road to make the trek up to Alva, Oklahoma for a three-game series against the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers are 10-4 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. The Rangers opened their conference schedule with a sweep of Southern Nazarene before being swept by Oklahoma Baptist. They outscored the Crimson Storm 35-8 before being outscored by the Bison 44-22, including a 21-10 final score in game two of that series. For pitching, the Rangers' Dillon Von Oosbree has made four starts on the season, sporting a 5.09 ERA while striking out 12 batters in 17.2 innings this season. Opponents are hitting .267 against the Rangers pitching staff. Offensively, the Rangers are led by a pair of players that have received conference player of the week honors - Colton Whitehouse and Carlos Andujar. Whitehouse is batting .441 on the season with seven doubles and a home run, and Andujar is batting .412 with three homeruns and .676 slugging percentage while drawing more walks than strikeouts on the season. After this weekend, the Rangers travel to Tahlequah, OK to take on Northeastern State in a midweek game before heading down to Monticello to take on the Boll Weevils in a three-game conference series.
The Muleriders are 10-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. They swept Henderson State opening weekend before taking two of three games against Harding. On the mound, the Muleriders have been led by reliever
Matt Kortendick. The junior transfer has made six appearances, pitching 16.0 innings and not giving up a run in the process. Kortendick has 11 strikeouts and has picked up three wins and a save, and opponents are only batting .161 against him. The Muleriders boast a trio of players that have been named conference player of the week -
Cooper King,
Brett McGee and
Jansen McCurdy. King is batting .327 on the season while slugging .481 and scored a joint-team high 12 runs. McGee is leading the team with a .360 batting average and a .467 on-base percentage, as well as 13 RBIs. McCurdy is batting .289 on the season with a team-high six doubles, as well as a team-high 10 walks, a number also held by McGee. After this weekend, the Muleriders host the top-ranked team in the country, Delta State, in a midweek game before hosting the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma in a three-game conference series next weekend.
