Muleriders Close Out 2019 with Convincing Win over Williams Baptist

Four players score in double figures; SAU outrebounds 8th opponent of the season

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas ended 2019 on a high note on Saturday afternoon inside the W.T. Watson Center as the Muleriders took care of business in an 85-64 win over Williams Baptist. The victory pushes the team's overall record to 5-5 and officially ends the nonconference portion of SAU's schedule. In one of their toughest non-league slates in recent memory, the Muleriders posted a 3-3 mark.

In the win, four players scored in double figures led by a career-high 14 points from true freshman guard Dodge Brown who poured in a 4-of-5 effort from behind-the-arc as part of a 5-of-6 shooting performance in 20 minutes on the floor. Junior guard Trey Davis followed with 13 points and added four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Junior guards Aaron Lucas and Gabe Gilliam each scored a dozen points with Lucas picking up four of the team's 11 steals.

For the eighth time this season, the Muleriders outrebounded their opponent as SAU won the battle on the glass 40-28 with an even 20 rebounds coming on both ends of the court. Junior forward Devante Brooks led the team in rebounding for the seventh time this season as he grabbed a game-high seven boards.

SAU shot 43.3% (29-of-67) from the floor and 44.8% (13-of-29) from deep. Following a three-pointer from sophomore combo Jalen Brooks at the 19:21 mark of the first half which answered an Eagle three that opened scoring in the contest, the Muleriders would not trail for the remainder of the game.

The Muleriders committed just ten turnovers and turned 18 Williams Baptist turnovers into 21 points.

Southern Arkansas returns to action in 2020 as they will bring in the New Year inside the W.T. Watson Center on January 2 and 4 with matchups against Northwestern Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma, respectively. The two home games begin a stretch of 18 Great American Conference contests to close out the regular season. Live coverage links will be available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
