Magnolia – The SAU Women's Basketball team opened their home schedule with a statement victory, a 76-71 victory over #18 Harding that saw the Muleriders force 47 Bison turnovers, which the Muleriders turned into 41 points off turnovers.
Freshman
Diamond Morris led all scorers with a career-high 21 points on 5-14 shooting from the field. The Sheridan native went 9-10 from the free-throw line, including making all six of her attempts in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Morris added in five steals as the Muleriders recorded 26 steals as a team.
Kylie Warren was the other Mulerider in double-digits with 11 points off the bench.
Fatarah Kinnard led the defensive effort for the Muleriders with six steals. The junior scored nine points, including 6-6 from the free-throw line, and grabbed three rebounds.
Alyssa Crase led the effort on the boards, grabbing five boards to go along with five points and four steals.
The Muleriders forced 47 Bison turnovers, including five players committing five or more turnovers, as a pair of Bisons fouled out.
This marks the first win for the Muleriders over a ranked team since January 29
th, 2015 when they were victorious over #20 Arkansas Tech 57-52.
With the win, the Muleriders better their win total from a season ago – and earn their first conference win of the season. A season ago, it took the Muleriders nine attempts to notch a GAC victory.
The Muleriders improve to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. They return to action on Tuesday to host Missouri S&T in a non-conference matchup.
