Magnolia, Ark. -Â The Muleriders take on a pair of Arkansas schools, Arkansas-Monticello and Harding, this weekend after a four-game stretch where they took on Oklahoma opposition. This past weekend, the Muleriders lost by a combined 35 points at home versus East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma.Â
On Thursday, the Muleriders make the trip to Monticello to take on the Cotton Blossoms of Arkansas-Monticello. The Cotton Blossoms are coming off a weekend where they lost to the same teams as the Muleriders, East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma State, by a combined 42 points.Â
The Cotton Blossoms are led in scoring by Mackenzie Johnson. Johnson currently averaged 17.5 points per game on 68.5 percent shooting from the field and 68.6 percent from the free-throw line. Johnson also averages 5.0 rebounds per game, third-most for the Cotton Blossoms, and leads the team in steals, with 20 on the season. Monticello have two other players averaging double-digit scoring marks, Berniezha Tidwell (12.8 ppg) and Chari Swift (11.8 ppg). Swift also leads the team in rebounding (6.1 rebounds per game) while Tidwell is second on the team in that category (5.2 rebounds per game).Â
On Saturday, the Muleriders return home to face Harding, a team that beat the Muleriders by 28 points back in December in Searcy. In that matchup, the Bisons were led in scoring by Cheyenne Brown, who scored 17 points as four Bisons scored in double digits that night.Â
The Muleriders are led in scoring average by
Ariana Guinn, who is averaging 10.6 points per game; however, since the start of 2019, the Muleriders have gone to
Jerica Bell for offense, as she has been the team's leading scorer in each of the past four games. Senior
Alyssa Crase is leading the effort on the boards, grabbing 5.5 rebounds per game, and
Brette Wacha and
Tamera Shaver lead the team behind the arc, making one of three three-pointers attempted.Â
After this weekend, the Muleriders make their second Oklahoma roadtrip of the season to take on Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist.
