Muleriders push Northwestern Oklahoma to the limit; suffer straight-sets defeat on Friday night

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas, which entered Friday night's Great American Conference matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma State having won three of their past four matches, battled the Rangers for three deep sets, before eventually suffering a straight-sets defeat (23-25, 21-25, 22-25) inside the W.T. Watson Center.

The Muleriders (6-12, 1-5 GAC) hit .183 on the night; the fourth-highest for the team this season, which included a first-set attack percentage of .346 (15-6-26) that helped SAU build an 18-12 lead in the opening frame, before the Rangers (14-7, 3-3 GAC) rallied to pull within two points at 22-20 and ultimately take the lead on a 5-1 run that closed out the set.

In set two, Southern Arkansas trailed 14-7 but battled back to draw within a point of the Northwestern Oklahoma lead at 18-17. The Rangers scored seven of the next dozen points to take a 2-0 match lead.

A 4-1 SAU lead to start the third set quickly dissolved as the Rangers and Muleriders traded points into an 11-11 tie. SAU took over and built a five-point lead at 20-15, but Northwestern Oklahoma ended the match on a 10-2 run to pick up their third league victory of the season.
