SALEM, Va. – Following the conclusion of the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Championship in Salem, Virginia, this past weekend, the World Series' All-Tournament Team was announced and among the top players honored were a trio of Southern Arkansas standouts that helped lead the Lady Muleriders out of the loser's bracket and into the National Semifinals for the second time in program history where the club notched a program-best third-place finish nationally.
Outgoing seniors
Megan Godoyo (OF) and
Jill Roye (DP) and sophomore
Rachel Miller (C) were named to the All-Tournament Team. The trio was instrumental in SAU's run which included three elimination wins within a 24-hour period.
Godoyo led Southern Arkansas at the plate as the veteran outfielder hit .421 (8-for-19) with two doubles and a home run, while slugging .684 in the five games played. Those marks led the team and the Vandalia, Illinois, native also delivered team-highs with six RBI and four runs scored. She recorded a hit in every game, including two-hit performances in three games. Additionally, Godoyo was one of four SAU players to post a perfect fielding percentage.
Her best performance of the series came in SAU's first elimination game against No. 3 Chico State as she blasted a grand slam in the top of the seventh to put SAU up five runs in a game in which they won by a lone run.
Roye hit .375 (6-for-16) with a double in five starts as the Lady Muleriders' designated player. A native of Wilburton, Oklahoma, Roye drove in four runs, scored a pair of runs and walked twice. She was responsible for a pair of multi-hit games and she accounted for a pair of RBI in the aforementioned thrilling win over No. 3 Chico State.
Miller recorded four hits, walked three times, scored three runs and added two RBI in five starts behind the plate for the Lady Muleriders. Of the sophomore's four hits, one was a solo home run that sparked the SAU offense in their 3-0 elimination win over No. 4 Angelo State.
Behind the plate, Miller was solid as she recorded 32 putouts and three assists in 35 chances, while fielding 1.000.
