SALEM, Va. – The winningest season in program history came to a close for seventh-seeded Southern Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex as the Lady Muleriders suffered a 3-0 loss to second-seeded Saint Anselm in the National Semifinals to cap their postseason run with a third-place finish nationally.
The Lady Muleriders (60-11) recorded eight hits and put the leadoff batter on base in all seven innings of the bottom bracket finale, but was unable to push across a run as they stranded nine baserunners. Saint Anselm struck for all three of their runs in the third inning on three hits and an error.
Senior
Marina Duran and freshman
Hallie Saintignan each recorded two hits, with Duran accounting for the lone extra-base hit with a leadoff double in the fourth inning.
Southern Arkansas surrendered just three hits to the Hawks as sophomore
Victoria Taylor and junior reliever
Brooke Ford-Nelson combined for the seven innings of work.
Despite falling just short of the National Championship Best-of-3 Series, the Lady Muleriders posted a remarkable 2018 that saw the club capture the program's second Central Region Title in three years, the program's first outright regular season conference championship and numerous single-season team records.
