No. 8 Lady Muleriders power past Minnesota State-Mankato in the opening round of the Central Region Tournament with a 9-1 run-rule victory

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Lady Muleriders scored early and often that led to a run-rule victory in the opening round of the Central Region Tournament as SAU walked it off in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the win over Minnesota State-Mankato at a final decision of 9-1.

HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
  • SAU got on the board early in their very first at-bat as Brooke Goad blasted her 29th homerun of the year out to right-center field to put the Lady Muleriders up, 1-0 in the first inning.
  • The Lady Muleriders continued to swing away at the plate as they added four runs in the second inning on four hits to extend their lead out to 5-0.
  • A lead-off triple from Megan Godoyo jumpstarted that frame for the Lady Muleriders where she later scored on a wild pitch.
  • Back-to-back singles from Sarah Pitre and Goad followed Godoyo in that frame and Faith Otts would drive both of those runs home, including herself, on a 3-run jack to left-center field.
  • Godoyo continued with her hot bat into the third as she collected an RBI double that plated another run for SAU and make it 6-0.
  • Mankato connected with a solo homer in the next inning that put the Lady Mavericks on the board and would prove to be their only run of the game as the Lady Muleriders scored three runs over the next pair of innings combined to take the eventual win in run-rule fashion in the bottom of the sixth inning after Pitre drew a walk-off bases-loaded walk to put the game away at a final decision of 9-1.
 
 IN THE CIRCLE
  •  Victoria Taylor pitched her way to her 29th win in the circle this year for SAU as the sophomore allowed just one earned run on three hits through six innings of work.
  • Taylor picked up seven strikeouts in the contest and did not allow any walks.
 
 AT THE PLATE
  • As a team, SAU combined for 16 hits and had just one strikeout in the contest
  • Otts led SAU with three RBIs on a pair of hits with a pair of runs scored
  • A trio of Lady Muleriders tallied three hits apiece with Goad and Jill Roye going 3-for-4 at the plate, and Godoyo with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate.
  • Goad, Miller, Godoyo, Pitre, and Saintignan each collected an RBI in the game
