ON THE MOUND
  • Hunter Vasquez and Bryant Haralson demonstrated why they have been given the baseball to open GAC series throughout the year as the two dueled one another to similar stat lines.
  • Both allowed two earned runs and struck out six, but the Reddies were able to tag one more unearned run on Vasquez than the Muleriders were able to against Haralson to help decide the game.
  • The Reddies needed to use just one pitcher as Haralson went the distance. He would allow just five hits and walked one.
  • The Muleriders used two pitchers with Vasquez pitching 7.0 innings and Tanner Vaught handling the Reddies' final at-bats.
  • Vasquez, who was named the GAC Pitcher of the Week two weeks running, had to work out of the stretch more often than he has grown accustomed to as the Reddies totaled 12 hits. HSU also benefitted from a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch to force Vasquez into the stretch.

AT THE PLATE
  • The Mulerider offense was held in check for the most part by Haralson as SAU totaled just five hits in the game.
  • Haralson was especially tough on the middle of the Muleriders' order as he did not allow a hit to the 2-through-5 hitters.
  • Dakota Wright had the only multi-hit game as he went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
  • The first time Wright scored came in the third inning when Zach Muldoon connected on a two-run homer to centerfield off of Haralson.
  • SAU pushed across their third run of the game in the top of the eighth thanks an error by the Reddies shortstop.
  • After being held scoreless through the first four innings, Henderson plated a run in the fifth and added two more unearned runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
  • A sacrifice fly in the seventh by the Reddies made it a 4-2 game and proved to be all the insurance needed.
