MAGNOLIA, Ark. – More than a month before closing out their respective regular seasons in a Great American Conference three-game series, Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello will meet for a non-conference matchup tonight starting at 6 p.m. out at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.
The Muleriders will come into the game 13-7 overall after going 1-2 on the weekend against Southern Nazarene. The Boll Weevils enter the Tuesday night tilt ranked No. 21 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, and are 14-5 overall. UAM went 1-2 last weekend as well dropping the first and third games of their series versus Oklahoma Baptist.
As a team, the Muleriders are currently hitting .265 with 28 doubles, three triples, and 29 home runs. Conversely, the Boll Weevils are hitting a GAC-leading .345 as a team. UAM also leads the GAC in doubles (56) and home runs (37).
In terms of pitching, SAU has posted a GAC-best 3.90 team ERA and has struck out 193 batters in 164.0 innings. Opponents are also hitting .224 off of the Mulerider pitching staff, which is second-best in the league. For the Boll Weevils, their pitching staff has a 5.57 ERA and totaled 144 strikeouts in 155.0 innings of work. UAM's opposition is hitting .255 against their pitching staff.
The leading hitter for the Muleriders in terms of average is
Jake Tisevich at .370 (20-for-54).
Jacob Richardson leads the team in home runs with seven and RBIs with 20.
Mark Fontenot and
Dakota Wright are next in RBIs with 19. For the Boll Weevils, they have eight batters in their regular lineup hitting over .300 with Garrett Dodd leading the way at .412 (28-for-68). Dodd is also one of four that have hit six home runs for UAM to co-lead the team. Five Boll Weevils have registered 20 or more RBIs with Seth Wagner pacing the team with 30 RBIs each.
Last year, the Muleriders and Boll Weevils played five times with the season series going 3-2 in favor of UAM. The Boll Weevils took the mid-week game early in the year, but SAU secured the conference series 2-1 at the close of the regular season. They met once more in an elimination game in the Central Region Tournament in which UAM won 5-4.
